Examining Soil Erosion Responses to Grassland Conversation Policy in Three-River Headwaters, China

چکیده

Soil erosion in the Three-River Headwaters (TRH) region has continued to intensify recent decades due human activities and climate change. To reverse this situation, Chinese central government launched Subsidy Incentive System for Grassland Conservation (SISGC). As a sign of effectiveness SISGC implementation, dynamic changes soil can provide timely feedback decision makers managers. The Revised Universal Loss Equation (RUSLE) model was used simulate spatial distribution before after Mann–Kendall (MK) test reveal effect policy implementation. results showed that: (1) TRH mainly mild (83.83% total eroded area), average rate were 13.63 t ha−1 y−1 323.58 × 106 respectively implementation; (2) implementation curbed erosion. After decreased by 3.80%, which obvious differences between grassland types; (3) influences because it increased vegetation cover, further decreasing However, Alpine deteriorated, indicating direct targeted policymaking should be on agenda. Furthermore, grassland-type-oriented restore ecosystem.

Challenges to Soil Erosion Control Measures among Farmers in Anambra State, Nigeria: Implications for Extension Policy

The study investigated challenges to soil erosion control measures among farmers in Anambra State, Nigeria. Purposive, multistage and random sampling techniques were employed in selecting a sample size of two hundred and forty (240) respondents. Structured interview schedule was used for data collection. Frequency counts, percentage, mean scores and factor analysis were used for data analysis. ...

Managing Soil Erosion on the Loess Plateau of China to Control Sediment Transport in the Yellow River-A Geomorphic Perspective

A key part of the strategy to manage the problems of flooding and sedimentation of the lower Yellow River in China is the control of soil erosion on the loess plateau. Land use practices are assumed to be the root cause of the high sediment yield and therefore able to be controlled. An analysis of the geomorphology of the loess plateau region shows that there are natural causes of high sediment...

Can Clean Energy Policy Improve the Quality of Alpine Grassland Ecosystem? A Scenario Analysis to Influence the Energy Changes in the Three-River Headwater Region, China

In past decades, ecological services and functions of alpine grassland in the Three-River Headwater Region (TRHR), Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, have been severely degraded due to overgrazing and overuse of yak dung as a fuel. Therefore, the eco-migration project has been implemented by the national government for improving eco-environmental quality in this region. This paper examines the carbon cyc...

Assessing Vegetation Cover Dynamics Induced by Policy-Driven Ecological Restoration and Implication to Soil Erosion in Southern China

In the aftermath of the severe droughts and floods at the end of the 20th century, the Chinese government launched several ecological restoration projects, including the Natural Forest Protection Program in 1998 and the Grain-for-Green Program in 1999, to promote afforestation and reforestation to reduce surface runoff and consequent soil erosion nationwide. However, it is still unclear how veg...
